Original Grant
Projects
In 1992, the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was awarded
a four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Rehabilitation
Services Administration for the Ohio Valley Center for
Brain Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation. The Ohio Valley Center was
one of six RSA-funded regional brain injury centers. The original goal
of the center was to promote prevention, acute care, and rehabilitation
for persons who have experienced TBI residing in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia,
and Virginia. Projects in the original grant addressed prevention of brain
injuries, secondary prevention of substance abuse, identification and
reduction of risks for sub-optimal outcomes, empowering families and survivors,
case management services, and substance abuse treatment.
