Project 1.1: Partners
in Prevention
Educate the general public about the causes
and effects of TBI through prevention campaigns presented by survivors
of TBI and their familiies.
Project 1.2: Preventing
Substance Abuse after Traumatic Brain Injury
The objective, "prevent recurrent injury and unnecessary morbidity resulting
from substance abuse", remained the same throughout the project.
Project 2.1: Identifying
Risks for Sub-Optimal Outcome
This project was a longitudinal study of
patients admitted to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
following a brain injury. The study was designed to look at both pre and
post-injury variables to determine if there were certain predictors of
less than optimal recovery. The study enrolled 400 subjects. Data analysis
is currently being completed.
Project 3.1: Case
Management for Persons with Traumatic Brain Injury
Assure timely and appropriate access to rehabilitation
services via establishment of a case management system that begins in
the hospital and is consumer, versus funding source, oriented.
Project 3.2:
Consumer Empowerment Through Training
The objective of this project was to empower survivors of brain injury
and their families to design and direct their own rehabilitation services
by providing training and technical support in the form of advocacy ,
information and referral.
Project 3.3: Empowering
Survivors
To empower survivors to self direct advocacy efforts
via the establishment of survivor councils.
Project 3.4: Support
Group Leadership Network
Facilitate advocacy and support available through
local NHIF support groups by providing training to, and establishing a
network among, local support group leaders.
Project 3.5: Treating
Substance Abuse after Traumatic Brain Injury
Provide community-based treatment for problems
of substance abuse following TBI
