Internet and TBI

It is evident that the use of the Internet is becoming a common part of life in the United States and indeed the world. It is anticipated that the Internet will one day (if not already) be a basic tool of communication similar to the telephone, radio and television. As the explosion in the development of Internet resources has happened in the past several years it has been a concern of the Ohio Valley Center that the brain injury community not be left behind, particularly persons with brain injuries, their family members and caregivers.

OVC has devoted resources to several areas of interest regarding this development. OVC is one of the leaders in providing listservers to the brain injury community. OVC has conducted basic research on the availability and use of the Internet by primary and secondary consumers. OVC has conducted demonstration projects with respect to use of the Internet to provide peer support and enhance treatment team communication. Center staff have developed a paper on use of the Internet by nonprofit organizations describing some of the non-commercial uses available and the possible issues to be considered when entering into use of the Internet as a tool for organizational communications.
