Employment

The prediction of vocational success following brain injury has recently received considerable attention in the literature. The majority of the studies have focused on work re-entry of individuals who were employed at the time of the injury. However, thirty-five to fifty percent of persons sustaining brain injury were not employed at the time of the injury. Given the relatively young age of the population, many of these individuals would have been preparing to enter the workforce at the time of the injury. Others may not have been working due to other reasons.

Projects conducted via the Ohio Regional TBI Model System have examined work entry for individuals who were not employed prior to their injury (link to TBI Model System project on Work Entry). We have also examined the "natural history" of use of the state-federal vocational rehabilitation program following inpatient rehabilitation for TBI.
