Suboptimal Outcomes Study

The Ohio State University Suboptimal Outcome Study is a cohor of 400 consecutive patients (1) admitted to the OSU specialized brain injury rehabilitation unit from May, 1993 through May, 1997, (2) who were at least 14 years of age, (3) had a primary diagnosis of TBI, and (4) consented at the time of hospital rehabilitation admission to be part of a longitudinal outcome study. A standardized dataset consisting of emergency room, acute hospitalization, and acute rehabilitation information was collected on all subjects during their acute rehabilitation. Following discharge from inpatient care, they are re-contacted by phone annually for five years. Upon completing the phone interview, a supplemental mail survey is sent that includes additional questions for both the individual and primary caregiver. Numerous studies have been conducted on data derived from the Suboptimal Outcome Study.
